Sony Brings Crossplay to the PlayStation 4

Image
Crossplay has been one of the most player-requested features for this generation of gamers, for as long as I can remember. I mean who wouldn't want to play with their best buddy on another platform like the Xbox One or the Switch--think of the possibilities. Well as of September 26th Sony has made the first step toward making that possible. The only catch is, it's only set up for Fortnite.  Fortnite players on PS4 can now play with gamers on Xbox One, Switch, Android, iOS, Windows and Mac computers. In the PlayStation blog that announced this, John Kodera said this: We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective. Granted this is only for Fortnite and it's only in BETA, this is a great first step to getting crossplay with more games down the road.  Personally, I think this is great. I have friend...

Game Awards 2016

Image
With the end of the year quickly approaching it's that time again. The Game Awards are slated for December 1st at 9 PM EST at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Pretty soon we'll get to see which games are elected winner of their respective categories. With 2016 begin a great year for games, the Awards will be exciting, to say the least, plus the possibility of getting a glimpse at upcoming games isn't bad either. If you're looking to tune into the Game Awards, you can catch it on several platforms including: YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch. You can also watch it on your Xbox One or PS4. I'm looking forward to the winners and announcements from the show. --- Courtesy of Games News Network

Nintendo Switch Announcement

Image
Yesterday Nintendo did something pretty cool. It officially announced its new console and no it wasn't the Nintendo NX as it was called. Instead we got a trailer of the Nintendo Switch, a console, for lack of a better word, seems so genius. It captures both the console and handheld market, much like the Wii U did but better. One thing that immediately caught my attention from the first look video was how seamless the transition was from using the Switch as a console to a handheld device. Just put the two joystick controllers onto the mounted screen and go. Another thing was Skyrim running on the console which opens a lot of possibilities for the platform. More third-party supported games? One thing I did notice is that we're going back to cartridges, which I'm not sure how I feel. Outside of being a unique design, wouldn't expect anything less from Nintendo, there are of course concerns. The battery, the amount of power the conso...

Pokemon Sun & Moon Special Demo Version Kick-off Video

Image
Update: So I got this wrong. It wasn't that they'd be doing a demo of the game on their channel or anything it would seem that they were releasing a demo for gamers to play. Sorry about that misunderstanding. --- Nintendo is giving Pokemon fans a rare threat. Today, October 18 at 7 AM Pacific time, Nintendo will be giving a demo of Pokemon Sun & Moon. According to the video the demo takes place outside of the games main story but hopes to reveal a lot about the game including new Pokemon, features and such.  Head back here later for said video which I'll link in this post. --- Courtesy of Games News Network

E3: Bayonetta 2 E3 Trailer

Image
When Nintendo first announced Bayonetta 2 would be coming to their platform as an exclusive title I thought the move was very surprising. Bayonetta is one of my favorite games and after seeing this trailer I can't wait to see what Platinum Games does with the sequel. I've fallen in love with her all over again, her short hair and blue guns (not to mention the over-the-top action) just look remarkable.

Nintendo Announces 3DS XL and More...

Image
Last week Reggie Fils-Aime hosted the Nintendo direct show where he revealed several projects occurring within Nintendo and what we'll get to see over the next several months. The first thing he revealed was the 3DS XL which is, as the name implies, a bigger version to the 3DS. It packs two huge screens that are 90% bigger than its predecessors, comes with a 4gb SD card and will be released on August 19th. Throughout the show the went over several games including Kirby's Dream Collection, Pikman 2, the Nintendo eShop and much more. What came as a surprise was the announcement that Nintendo is partnering with Namco Bandai to create the next Super Smash Brothers. There's a lot more that Nintendo goes over so check out the video below.

Review Rond-Up: Mario Tennis Open

Image
Hankering for a game of tennis but don't want just a regular game. Well how about taking Mario and his friends for a spin. Lets see what the critics had to say about Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS. MetaCritic:   70/100 GameTrailers:   8.1/10 Mario Tennis Open’s single player mode is fun for a few hours, but it will ultimately leave you wanting more. Thankfully, the multiplayer mode with its online functionality will keep you coming back well after you’ve plowed through the main course. Mushroom Kingdom tennis vets will miss the career mode, but anyone just looking for a solid competitive game that’s best enjoyed in short bursts will be well taken care of. GameInformer:   8.0/10 For the first time in series history, Mario Tennis Open offers full online multiplayer – both singles and (impressively) doubles. It also has local wireless multiplayer. Based on my experience, both modes work smoothly. This isn’t the tennis revolution that some might have hoped for, bu...

Nintendo E3 Press Conference Impressions

Image
That does it for all the E3 Conferences, Nintendo has wrapped and although I was expecting to be blown away--Nintendo could only muster up a small breeze. Nintendo unfortunately stumbled into the same hole that Microsoft managed to dig the day before. Nintendo started their conference strong with the reveal of a fan favorite Pikmin 3, showing off new gameplay and the bump in graphics that comes from running on the new Wii U. They showed off the Wii U gamepad and then they showed New Super Mario Bros. U. On the third party front, Batman Arkham City Armored Edition utilizes the Wii U gamepad and offers a different take on Rocksteady's game. It's from here that I think Nintendo lost me. Wii Fit U Okay, that's expected, but what's up with Sing Nintendo. The third party trailer seemed to be same games from last years E3. Nintendo should have taken it upon themselves to showoff some more games from the third-party developers so we could see some more of the gamepads ...

E3 2012

Image
In a few short days, 3 days 21 hours and 17 minutes to be exact. E3 2012 will be underway. There will be the press conference for the big three, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, as well as Ubisoft and Square Enix--among others. Going by all the pre-E3 news and clips that have been released so far, it's safe to say that E3 this year will be very impressive this year. Most of you are like me and are unable to attend this event, so what are our options? Well several sites including Gametrailers will be stream the major press conferences as they happen.
