Weighing In: Are Single-Player Games Dying

Image
There has been an ongoing debate as to the current state of the video game industry as it concerns single-player games and if it's dying out. Now, I can completely understand where this is coming from in light of recent trends where games have adopted more of a service model to get gamers to shell out more money over time. I have my own grievances with that but I won't go into that here. With that being said, I have to say that I don't believe that single-player games are on their way out. Here's why. While more and more games are becoming multiplayer focused with the inclusion of certain services, take for instance  Overwatch  and more recently PUBG  but let's not also forget Assasin's Creed Origins . We're seeing that games are coming with ways for publishers to get gamers to spend more than just the price of the game. If it's not a season pass or special editions of these games then there are loot boxes and add-ons to make the game more accessib...

Happy N7 Day - Mass Effect Andromeda Cinematic Reveal Trailer

Image
It's N7 day, the day that has become synonymous with everything Mass Effect. Today we are celebrating Mass Effect Andromeda with a Cinematic Reveal trailer. In the trailer we get to meet our protagonist that will herald us into the new frontier, our pathfinder. We also get a glimpse of our enemy, monsters and the environments we'll get to visit. If this trailer is any indication of what this game will be like, I think one word sums it up -- EPIC. I have to say from the brief pieces of gameplay mixed in throughout this trailer the game looks beautiful and I wouldn't expect anything less. My wish for Andromeda is to put me back into that same place that Mass Effect 2 did. Expect to get your hands on Mass Effect Andromeda next Spring. --- Courtesy of Games News Network

Top Picks for 2012

Image
With 2012 underway and the industry poised for another great year in gaming I bring you my top picks for 2012. With rumors of new hardware and games 2012 is already starting out strong and as I look through my Amazon list of pre-ordered games I cringe at the headshot my wallet will take this year. However, no matter the damage that hasn’t stopped me before. This list is based on the games I’m most looking forward to playing this year. Asura’s Wrath When I first saw this game I was blown away by it over the top cinematic action. I’m expecting this one to be quite an experience. Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning I’m a huge RPG fan and Kindom’s of Amalur falls right into that category. Offering all the aspects of a traditional RPG plus new innovations, Reckoning will definitely appease fans of the genre. Mass Effect 3 Another great RPG, ME 3 is set to conclude the story of Commander Shepard and the Reapers as he faces their ensuing invasion. DMC Dante is back but not a...
