Sony E3 Press Conference

Image
Last year Sony blew me away with their conference. The number of games they had to show us, many of which I've played over the last year and that I'm still playing to this day, became hits and best sellers.

Tonight I hope for more of the same. Sony kicked off their conference with a musical interlude and then goes right into Last of Us 2. It opens with brilliant cinematic and transitions seamlessly into gameplay. I have friends who don't even own a PS4 talking about just this intro beat out anything Microsoft showed off the day before. That speaks volumes to me. Last of Us 2 looks and plays like a marvel.

After a brief intermission, which wasn't that brief as I sat at the edge of my seat patiently waiting for it to return. Sony came back with Ghost of Tsushima which had a mix of stealth and combat gameplay. They showed off a new game called Control and then stunned everyone with the reveal of Resident Evil 2 Remastered.

OMG, Kingdom Heart III in Pirates of the Caribbean. …

Microsoft E3 Press Conference

Image
I have to say that I went into this Microsoft E3 Press Conference with little expectations. As I watch the conference and write this at the same time they did not disappoint. Or rather, they didn't impress. They hit the same beats they always do, sticking to their well-establish franchises and not venturing out and showing anything new.
The conference opens with a Halo: Infinite tease and then goes into games that we all know are coming. Crackdown 3, We Happy Few, Forza, Gears; you get the idea. They showed off a new trailer for Fallout 76 and a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III (LOVED IT) and a few other upcoming titles but nothing really NEW. We got a Division 2 trailer and gameplay reveal. It looks great but we all remember what happened when The Division first debuted at E3 and the final game we got when it was released.
We also got an announcement and trailer for Gears 5. Can't say that I didn't see that one coming but I did.

One thing I have to give them is the acquis…

Noctis Joins Tekken 7 Roster

Image
It was a busy weekend and I completely missed this one, but being a long-time fan of the fighting series I always enjoy these little surprises. Final Fantasy XV's Noctis will be going the ranks of Jin and the rest. Granted I would have loved to see one of the older Tekken characters returning like say Bruce or even Gon, just for laughs. However, seeing as we have Akuma from Street Fighter in the game what's another crossover character. I do like how they've made his moves part of his fighting style and it looks to work well with all the new mechanics of Tekken 7.

Weighing In: Are Single-Player Games Dying

Image
There has been an ongoing debate as to the current state of the video game industry as it concerns single-player games and if it's dying out. Now, I can completely understand where this is coming from in light of recent trends where games have adopted more of a service model to get gamers to shell out more money over time. I have my own grievances with that but I won't go into that here. With that being said, I have to say that I don't believe that single-player games are on their way out.

Here's why. While more and more games are becoming multiplayer focused with the inclusion of certain services, take for instance Overwatch and more recently PUBG but let's not also forget Assasin's Creed Origins. We're seeing that games are coming with ways for publishers to get gamers to spend more than just the price of the game. If it's not a season pass or special editions of these games then there are loot boxes and add-ons to make the game more accessible. I thin…

Introducing Moira

Image
And in regular Blizzard fashion for Blizzcon. This year we're also getting a new warrior on the Overwatch roster. Let me take the time to introduce to you, Moira. She's a bit of an unusual one to say the lease but that's to be expected from Overwatch.

Anthem Reveal and Gameplay

Image
OMG. There are certain instances when E3 is happening that a great game is announced. This is that instance. BIOWARE just announced their next game and man is it beautiful. It's an open-world RPG much like, and I hate to make the comparison but, Destiny. Only thing is, it looks so accessible. I'll get the Xbox One X just so that I can play this game with friends and experience it at it's best.

Injustice 2: Story Trailer

Image
It's been some time since I saw anything for Injustice 2 and one of the most important things I was hoping for was a release date. Well here it is, May 19th. We can jump back into the story of Injustice with new and returning characters including Darkside and Brainiac.

Stay tuned for more in the coming months.
